Sc.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1998 Summary: Parent material, relief, climate, organism and times are mainly control the formation of soil and they have relationship to each other. Integration of remote sensing and geographic information system is possible to extract these information by using image processing, image interpretation, Digital Elevation Model and GIS techniques. · Image processing is useful for generation new bands and band combination. Relation between landform, geology, vegetation and soil are also done by image interpretation in visually. Data storage of spatial and non spatial attribute data, data management, data manipulation and data out are provided by GIS techniques. Field survey data are aided for landuse study as well as geology, landform and topography of the study area. The result of soil formation factors could be used for soil characteristics especially in physical properties such as parent material, soil temperature, moisture, depth, and also soil colour. Soil mapping using external soil formation process and soil texture has advantages to identify more detail soil mapping units and reduce the time as well as budget for further soil survey. However field check for each soil mapping unit should be done to estimate the mapping accuracy. Soil profile development could be analyzed by soil survey and laboratory analysis.
