Apportionment of ambient aerosol sources by factor analysis : a case study in the Beijing urban area

The two programs are TTF A with test vectors compiled by MATHCAD software and TTFA with unique vectors compiled by QUICK BASIC 4.5. It was possible to find out major aerosol pollution sources using these two programs. The data used in this study were mainly collected from Beijing Municipal Institute of Environmental Protection Science. The results from TTF A with test vectors show that soil plus coal burning, building material and petroleum are major aerosol pollution sources, which account respectively for 70%, 9%, 14% of Total Suspended Particles (TSP with diameter<lOOæm). The· program of TTF A with unique vector only identified tree or four pollution sources. The results are consistent with the structure of Beijing's energy consumption. In this study, aerosol pollution source investigation has been successfully integrated with factor analysis to explore a strategy of aerosol pollution control.
