Five laboratory scale digester units were used in the experiment. It was found that the best results were .obtained with the digester whose composition of cowdung:nightsoil = 40:60, i .e., at the organic loading of 2 kg VS/m -d, detention time of 30 days, and dilution ratio of 1:1.5, the gas yield of 0.37 l/g VS-d, average methane content of 72.6% and total and filtrate COD removal of 58 and 78%, respectively, were obtained. Although the digester performance was affected by temperature, the pH value of all digesters slurry were found to be within range of 6.8-7.45 throughout the continuous operation period. The reduction of nitrogen and phosphate was found to be about 25 and 20%, respectively.
