An Attempt is made to maximize the firm power, as well as the total irrigated area based on the water avail able. A linear programming optimization method is applied as a tool for a screening study to find the optimum configuration of the system elements. This optimized configuration is then used as the starting points for the evaluation of the system by using a simulation method. The evaluation is made in order to examine t he effect of streamflow variation on the system over a 29 years hydrological period. The results obtained from this study indicate that installation of a power plant is technically feasible, without greatly affecting the existing condition. Power generation capacities at different sized areas of irrigation were obtained. The final selected configuration shows little differences from those in the existing condition of the project indicating the present system has been nearly at an optimum level with respect to water availability. The reliability of the system in supplying power at different levels is presented and an optimum plant capacity size is suggested.
