The cavern was excavated with drill and blast and supported with rock anchors, rockbolts, steel fiber reinforced shotcrete. Actual geology and rock response during various stages of excavation was reviewed and compared with the prediction. Comparison was made between rock mass quality classified according to EPDC and RMR classifications. Predominant rock response consisted of slaking and minor stress slabbing and loosening. Actual ground movement in roof and walls were compared with the pre-construction and post-construction predicted by FEM and BEM numerical analyses, and it was found that they were in good agreement.
