The overall system consists of six reservoirs or ponds, two pumped storage plants and five conventional hydro powerplants. The reservoirs and power plants are connected both in series and in parallel. The system generates hydropower and provides water for irrigation and downstream water requirements. The hydrological data used cover 26 years from 1954 to 1979. The most feasible combination of the Wusheh and Sun Moon Lake rule curves is recommended based upon the maximum power generation and minimum water shortage for irrigation. When the pumped storage plants are added to the system, the peak and off-peak power rates are considered. The systems power generation is divided into two parts, peak and off-peak energy. Power rates corresponding to peak and off-peak energy are used to calculate the power benefit. The operating policy which yields the maximum power benefit is selected.
