Quantitative evaluation of the supply of transportation services

The supply of transportation services was defined as the maximum or the optimum output of the services. Flow-density curve and the total travel-total travel time curve are used to describe the quantity and the condition of the transportation output. A supply model which is derived from fluid-flow analogy, is in terms of two parameters, jam density and free speed. It is simple, applicable and valid to those manually, see-and-be seen transportation systems. A model for choice of travel-modes is also presented, from which different modes of travel can be ranked with respect to a certain amount of demand and a specified distance. Level of service which includes money cost, travel time cost, reliability, comfort, convenience and safety, are also considered. To ensure the developed models are applicable, they are applied to the transportation planning of a hypothetical city, which is in shape of linear, one-dimensional megalopolis. This megalopolis is analogous to many coastal areas which have high populations in the real world.
