Reconsiderations on Stokes' wave theory

By: Call Number: AIT Thesis no. 856 Contributor(s): Material type: TextSeries: Asian Institute of Technology. Thesis ; no. 856Publication details: Bangkok : Asian Institute of Technology, 1976Description: 37 pSubject(s): Online resources: Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1976 Summary: The derivation and the accuracy of the Stokes wave theory i s reviewed in comparison with the conodal wave theory. The equation system common to both wave theories is derived. To obtain the Stokes wave solution it is assumed that the velocity components are in the form of Fourier series expansion. Two parameters are established to express the accuracy of the solution for the non-linear surface conditions. The accuracy of the second approximation of the present solution is compared with that of the first approximation of the conodal wave in terms of these error parameters.
