In this study, a model which could well represent the acting load on shield machine is identified. Acting force on skin plate in this model depends on the relative position of shield in the tunnel alignment. By realizing the fact that acting force on shield satisfy the dynamio equilibrium oondition, aoting foroe on shield face was made cleared as it is shared by force acted on skin plate in order to balance with jack force equipped in shield machine. Assuming that shield is a large load cell, it is confirmed that ground properties can be detected by using reverse analysis which adopt mortified Marquadt's method as a non-linear parameter optimization technique. The formulation in this model include six unknown parameters which can detect the ground properties by using reverse analysis which can adjust acting force on shield. In order to take solution of these analytical scheme, required computer program which is written FORTRAN 77 and verified by manual calculation and by test program is developed. The application of this model is performed by using in-situ data which are taken from single track rail way tunnel near the Tokyo Bay. In addition, ground properties at the portion of this tunnel are detected and compared with previous study.
