To share the printer among the microcomputer user, a serial line spooler is designed and developed, It is developed based on Fujitsu FM8 8-bit microcomputer. The Spooler has been tested in accommodating 4 microcomputer and 2 printers simultaneously. For baud rate up to 4800 bps, the spooler shows good result. The performance of the spooler is measured. It is done by measuring the input transmission time, the response time and the maximum input data rate. The result of the measurement show that the time needed to do the polling of the the input channels is high. The polling time is directly affect the speed of the spooler. The disk access time is other factor that affect the performance of the spooler. Reducing the polling and disk access time is recommended to improve the performance of the spooler.
