  <abstract>In recent decades, plastic pollution has become a crucial issue in global level. The  detrimental effects of plastic waste on environment and human health are unaccountable. To  address this situation, there are plenty of strategies adopted in global and national context.  Since 1970s, plastic pollution issue has been increased in Sri Lanka due to the rapid  urbanization, irreversible population growth and economic growth. With the time, several  initiatives emerged from the different stakeholders in Sri Lanka with the purpose of  managing plastic waste. To strengthen the plastic waste management in an effective way, it  is important to understand the existing situation of plastic waste management in the country.  Simply, the 2situational analysis3 can visualize the overview of the existing condition of  PWM system. To precisely capture all the existing information about PWM system, five  selected landscapes are used. They are; quantitative information in plastic value chain,  plastic recycling technologies, business models in plastic recycling, policies in PWM and  public awareness related to the PWM. This study expects to consider these five landscapes  along with the plastic value chain. The study is mainly based on secondary information  sources and few number of stakeholder interviews conducted to collect necessary primary  data. The primary data collection is carried out to fill the information gaps in the secondary  data. Moreover, the personal experiences and perspective on PWM in Sri Lanka was used to  explain the situation analytically. The focus study area is national level of PWM in Sri  Lanka. From the study, currently available quantitative information in plastic value chain  was identified. The available PW recycling technologies, plastic recycling business models  in Sri Lanka were identified. Identification of currently available PWM policies is used to  understand and discuss about the current situation. The use of public awareness tools by  government sector, business actors and NGOs are identified to realize the situation in public  awareness related to PWM. Overall, this situational analysis can be used as a path to identify  the gaps and improvements need to make in Sri Lankan PWM sector to achieve the  circularity.  </abstract>
