For a country to progress and move up the technology ladder into becoming a Knowledge Based Economy the role of Research Institutes, Science Parks and Technology Incubators is becoming increasingly important from the pint of view of obtaining, nurturing and developing tacit and explicit knowledge in the latest and emerging technologies. Thailand is a developing nation and to be able to lead itself to being a developed nation gathering and making available such technologies in all areas is essential. The electronics industry in Thailand is a major source of export revenues and foreign exchange earners but the nature of electronic components and goods produced and exported only constitute the midstream and downstream parts of the electronics industry Value Chain. For Thailand to develop into a major player in the electronics industry in the region it needs to move up the Value Chain into manufacturing of semiconductors and wafer fabrication, viz. in the area of microelectronics. TMEC is such a government initiative in the field, the first of its kind, in Thailand. Through the study we try to find out the major support and obstructing factors in their daily operations and what can be done to make it a smoother ride in reaching the end objectives of the setup.
