EV-94-35 aA thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Engineering, School of Environment, Resources & Development aThesis (M.Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1994 aThis study is based on a mixed integer programming model, WASTE RESOURCE ALLOCATION PROGRAM (WRAP), focusing on the optimization of total solid waste transportation and disposal system costs, and con sidering various transfer sites, disposal sites, transportation options, treatment methods, capital and operating costs. The study is carried out to assess the present and the future solid waste management systems and improve option in transportation system through introduction of a new transfer station in Tainan City. The results of this study show that present treatment method, sanitary landfill site , is the most expensive. The dominant factor of the system cost is land cost. Incineration is cheaper than landfill when l and cost is high.
