  <abstract>In this study, an experimental investigation on the responses of composite precast prestressed floor planks with cast-in-situ concrete topping to applied concentrated line load at midspan was carried out. Three types of solid precast-prestressed floor plank having cross section of 350x50 mm. were tested on simple span while the thicknesses of concrete topping adopted were 40-60 mm. The purpose of the study is to investigate in details the structural behavior of composite floor planks under different loading conditions. The effects of thicknesses of concrete topping on the structural performance were also investigated. Test results show that when composite floor planks were subjected to concentrated line load, the first cracking loads and flexural stiffnesses were significantly reduced as compared with those subjected to uniformly distributed load. The enlargement of concrete topping thickness resulted in a remarkable improvement of load-carrying capacity of composite floor planks regardless of type of loading applied to the planks. In other words, the first cracking load, flexural stiffness and ultimate load were considerably increased with the increase in thickness of concrete topping. Considering structural safety of composite floor planks, it was also observed that the safety factors were reduced sharply when composite floor planks were subjected to concentrated line load as compared to those subjected to uniformly distributed load. Failure of specimen was observed to be the same as that of underreinforced concrete members. The remarkable ductile behavior could be observed. The propagation of cracks was observed to be similar for both types of loadings except that the composite floor planks subjected to concentrated line load possessed narrower crack propagation zone and closer crack spacings.</abstract>
