This study attempts to estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emission from agricultural residues in selected Asian countries. CO₂, CH₄, and N₂O emissions from animal wastes have been estimated. Methane emission from animal wastes have been calculated using the value of methane production capacity of wastes suggested by US BPA as well as values derived from literature review. CO₂, CH₄, CO, N₂O and NOx emissions are estimated in case of crop residues. Estimation of energy potential of crop residues and animal wastes has also been carried out for these countries. An assessment of some of the mature technologies for the efficient utilization of agricultural wastes as energy source has also been carried out. The amount of coal that can be potentially saved and the CO₂ emission that can be thus avoided by using the selected technologies has also been estimated.
