Development of the roads of Southern belt was essential in order to attract more tourists and expand the economic sector of Southern belt. Southern Expressway was built as a result. Southern Expressway is the first expressway of Sri Lanka. It is from Matara (Godagama) to Colombo (Kottawa) covering 126km. This project is based on the Galle (Pinnaduwa) to Colombo (Kottawa) section comprising of 96km.From the analysis it was found that the most accident occurring hours are from 15-18 hours. Most accident occurring months are April-May as they are the festive season of Sri Lanka. It was found that the car is the vehicle which involved with many accidents. Human factors are the most contributing factor to accidents. Also found that the interchanges contribute to the number of fatalities by the results of Poisson Analysis.
