A survey on the drinking water quality in Bangkok Noi Sector of Bangkok Metropolitan Waterworks Authority was conducted to identify the sources of contaminations in the water distribution system. The study utilized ammonia, total organic carbon and total coliform count as the key indicators of contaminations. From the results of the survey, two sources of contaminations were identified. The sources are the direct intrusion of contaminants during the period of pipe repair and the colonization of microorganisms in the filter media of the public water drinking fountain which is directly connected to the major pipe line of the distribution system. Total coliforms were detected in 2.7 % of the total samples. However, none of the unsatisfactory samples exceeded any of the physical and chemical quality standards. On the basis of this survey, the overall quality of the drinking water supply in the distribution system can be considered acceptable and fit for drinking purposes.
