This study was conducted with the objective finding sustainable approach of reliving pressure to Xuan Nha Nature Reserve and strengthening the livelihood of dependent people. LIFE(livelihood, income, forest condition, and equity)indicators developed by CIFOR-RRI(Center for International Forestry Research-Resource Rights Initiative)were used as conceptual framework for studying livelihood of forest dependent people from 3 sub areas namely buffer area, ecological restoration area and strictly protected areaand the outcomeof their activities with relevance tothe Reserve.Currently, community{u201F}s activities are creating threats to forest area, forest land degradation and illegal resources harvesting.Fruit orchard, bee keeping and local pig farming were studied or their potential role in for reducing pressure on the Reserve and compatibility with the current livelihood assets of the people. Fruit orchard and bee keeping were recommended for buffer area since there are more convenient assets such as roads, market, and human knowledge. Fruit orchard and local pig farming were suggested for ERA and SPA to solve the problem of land degradation and maintain traditional habit of local community. This study also focused on analyzing policies that have important role onsocioeconomic development and forest management. Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF) was used as basic framework for analyzing. Economic coalition, Environmental coalition, and Social concern coalition are the major coalitions in this area. The conflict ofbelief system among these coalitions is a crucial factor affecting the success of policy. The support for livelihood practices and improvement of community{u201F}s awareness on forest protection is needed in all sub-areas.In ERA and SPA, it is essential to make the regulation on resource use. In BA, improvement of local awareness on using alternative materials to reduce pressure on timber is necessary.
