This study presents a system dynamics simulation model of a steelmaking process in an electric-arc furnace. The model is based on the process in G.S. Steel Co . , Ltd. and is composed of two of the three periods in a steelmaking process, namely, the oxidizing and deoxidizing periods. It assumes that the following are the major reactions in the process: (a) oxidation of iron, (b) oxidation of silicon, (c) oxidation of phosphorus, (d) oxidation of manganese, (e) oxidation of carbon, (f) lime-silica reaction, (g) oxidation of aluminum, and (h) lime-sulfur reaction and applied the law of mass action. It uses a rate equation, which is a function of van't Hoff equation and assumes linear relationship through a parameter F, which is called proportionality constant. The model is suitable for the problem of determining the right amount of 'purifying' elements to meet the specification of the product. Finally, a workability test was made by running the model in a computer.
