  <abstract>Systems approach was introduced as an aid to area development planning  in Lam Choen Basin, Khon Kaen Province, northeast of Thailand. The study emphasized on the agricultural development of the basin involving rural water supply and land use pattern. A rainfall-runoff simulation model,  SSARR (Streamflow Synthesis and Reservoir Regulations), was applied to study the hydrology system of the basin. The daily rainfall and mean monthly  values of pan evaporation data were used as inputs. Adjustments of parameters were carried out by trial and error resulting in satisfactory correlation between observed and simulated flows. In addition, land use evolution of Lam choen Basin from 1965 to 1975 was also studied. It was concluded that SSARR model could generate basin characteristics which could be applied in turn, to generate missing flow data or predict with available  rainfall data as input.</abstract>
