  <abstract>The effect of soil moisture on the tractive performance of a large  tractor had been found by measuring draft of the disk plow in various moisture levels using a dynamometer. The power pull curves have been drawn in three different gears and five moisture levels. It has been found that in the flooded soils the loss of power in an average is sixty  two percent of the maximum power achieved in moist soils. Due to improper ballasting the maximum power delivered in the higher gear (5th) was found  to be up to 82 percent in an average higher than the power delivered in the lower gear (3rd).  The unsuitability of the large four wheel (two wheel drive) tractor  fitted with pneumatic tires, for wet land in its present from is established. It has been found that only soil cone index is not the true parameter for soil strength in modelling tractive performance. The cohesion values were found to relate tractive performance in a better way. The need of modelling tractive performance in wet land is established. The accuracy of the empirical equations developed earlier for moist and  dry soils by Gee-Clough et, al has been tested</abstract>
