The study was carried out to see the effect of Sp.ir11lina ( SP L) on shrimp larvae ( .Penaeus monodo n ) rearing from late nauplii to early of postlarvae. Th e study composed of 3 experiments. All experiments were carried out in laboratory scale with 2 liters of seawater in cylindrical glass jar, provided with strong aeration . Larvae was fed at ad libitum rate. Chaetoceros was used as sol e fee d in Experiment 1. Chaetoceros or Ch aetoceros combined with different proportion so fen capsulated SPL were fed to larvae in Experiment 2. Different sources of SPL ; imported SPL (encapsulated SPL) a nd locally produced SPL were compared to see the difference on larval growth and survival by combining with CJ1aetoceros in Experiment 3. Locally produced SPL provided by 2 different dehydration methods; freeze-dried an cl s un - dried were also tested for the acceptability of larvae in Experiment 3. Growth was measured every 2 days and the total viable larvae was counted by the end of experiments. Partial water was c h a ng e d every 2 days. Six parameters of water characteristic were measured every 2 days ; total NH4 - N, N03 - N, DO, pH , temperature a nd salinity . Different mean of growth and survival were analysed statistically by ANOVA and LSD . Stocking rate of 150 larva e /land combination of Cl1aetoceros to Spirulina of 7 5:25 were found to be optimal conditions. Locally produced SPL in both forms have proved to contain comparable nutrition to "Algae 100", the larvae fed with t h ese SPL have similar growth and survival rate. Chaetoceros combined with SPL could improve consistent of survival rate when compared to those larvae fed Chaetoceros or SPL only. The considerable amount of linolenic acid (18 :3w3 ) in SPL may play an important role on larval shrimp growth. Apparent difference in growth was markedly observed b y the early of postlarvae, but not in the earlier stages. Therefore , the effect of SPL on growth of postlarvae, juvenile , adolescent and the later stages should be :further studied .
