In this study , the characteristics of flow in a channel formed of uniform gravel bed is analyzed in reference to the manning' s coefficient . The manning coefficient ' n ' is estimated in two ways and compared with the theoretical ' n ' . In one method , t h e turbulent flow theory applied for flow through porous media is employed in obtaining the flow through porous media a nd subsequently the ' n ' is calculated . In the other method, the open channel flow theory is utilized to estimate the flow over open channel and subsequently the 'n' is calculated. The merits and demerits of the above methods are discussed in reference to the theoretical manning ' s coefficient.
