An at tempt was made in this study to build a computer program to help farmers in insecticide application to rice crop for Thailand in general and Phatum Thani province in particular. The program was developed using expert system shell i.e. EXSYS. It h as 72 rules for recommendation of insecticide and an external program written in BASIC for selection of sprayer. It can be run using personal computer such as IBM PC, AT or compatible. Insecticides were recommended based on insects found, symptoms, cost a nd the effectiveness of chemical. The recommendations for insecticide made by this program are in agreement with those made by Department of Agriculture, Thailand. Only five sprayers namely lever operated, compression, motorised knapsack mist blower, spinning disc and electrostatic were considered in this study. The recommendations for selection of sprayer are based on droplet size, deposition efficiency, capacity, and operating cost. Laboratory and field experiments were done at AIT- Bangkok to provide data related to this selection.
