  <abstract>The purpose of the research is to analyze the Penang ferry system  through the use of a simulation process with regard to the following objectives :  a) Design and develop a simulation model,  b) Using the developed model, determine the distributions of waiting times of the various classes of users in the time period 0700-0900 hours (i.e, during the Penang peak hours) and hence the average waiting times.  c) Obtain the model results for the waiting times of the users during  one of the peak periods of the year, such as the Chinese New Year, where there is a tremendous increase in the volume of traffic, d) With the help of the developed simulation model, locate the bottleneck that contributes most of the waiting times of the users, and hence determine a system configuration (number of  ferries, ticket channels, etc,) such that the average waiting times of the users will be reduced,</abstract>
