Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has been gradually built the market-oriented power system in which all power plants have built their own competitive bidding prices. The National Load Dispatch Center (NLDC) will dispatch the power demands through power plants based on these prices in order to operate the power system economically and safely. Therefore, self schedule at the power plant is the first important matter in building its competitive biding price. Especially, Plus My power plant, the most modern and the biggest one in EVN, could consume 4.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year for operating its generating units to supply 23 billion KWh power to the grid. Thus, self schedule for combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) units at Phu My power plant has been strictly considered due to the convex characteristic including the prohibited or overlapped zone of fuel cost curves of CCGT units. This thesis has focused on the study of the self schedule problem at Phu fly power plant by using Genetic Algorithm and Direct Search toolbox, the new one available in matlab 7.0.4, to find the best optimal dispatch to the power demands required by NLDC. This method could solve the optimization problem for non-smooth objective function in which there would be the prohibited or overlapped zones
