N2  - Using the multiple case study research method to obtain related data from seven IJVs in  Vietnam, the research determines how or if control mechanisms and affecting factors relate  to the successful operation of Vietnam-based IJVs. These IJVs usually use four control  mechanisms. Three of them (action-control, result-control, and personnel-control) co-exist  in a closely-knit environment yet still influence each other in a process assisted by the  fourth control mechanism, relationship-control. This combined interaction is integral to a  successful IJV. The data suggested that as a condition for success an IJV should have at  least one control mechanism at a high level of importance with no control mechanism  positioned at a low level of importance.
