  <abstract>The purpose o f this study were to collect., categorize , and  analyze construction bid data and operation / maintenance cost  data for waste water treatment plants nation wide with goal of  providing a reference. for estimating future facility costs. To  accomplish this, construction bid information was obtained from  association . All facilities sampled are industrial wastewater  treatment plant funded after 1973 . The 35 treatment plants  construction projects were sampled , and only 25 of them were  available of sufficient data for analyzing .  During data analysis, it was assumed the cost of treatment  plant could be viewed from three perspectives : the cost of entire  plants, the sum of the cost of the individual construction unit  process and the s um o f the cost of individual construction  components such as steel , concrete,. .. etc. Therefore, construction  cost data were categorized according to three levels of detail.  Using linear regression analysist technique cost curves  developed relating item cost to plant design flow for each  of data . Method of estimating wastewater treatment plant  based on first quarter of 1989 new Taiwan dollars using  construction cost indices.    In practical , several cases in sufficient data were available  to develop valid relation ships for specific unit processes or  construction components. In other cases a equated at a were  available to define cost relations hips for individual types of  plants. As more construction cost history becomes avai1able , it is  expected that the current data base will be expanded and up date  regularly providing a more complete series of cost estimating  relation ship .  Due to economical fluctuation , cost functions, actualized by  using the cost indices for construction , presented in this study ,  preferred normally comparison used to prediction used . The fitful range scale use d in this study differed from 1 25 0 m3 /d to 30000  m3 / d , that means flowrate out of this range will be some what more  un certain .  'Main treatment unit processes of wastewater treatment like  pumping station , screening, preliminary treatment , equalization ,  sedimentation , clarifier , drylined ,... etc were considered and were  compared with literature, especially with EPA functions of  U. S. A. Differences were found And causes are discussed .  This study supplies information for the foreign investors as  well as for domestic manufacturers to estimate costs for  wastewater treatment in Taiwan .</abstract>
