Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1982 aThe study was undertaken as a first step in evaluating cost associated with wastewater treatment in Greater Bangkok Area (GBA) , Thailand. Regression equations based on statistical techniques have been developed for es- timating the capital and Operation and Maintenance (0 & M) costs of waste- water treatment plants. During data analysis, it was assumed that the cost of a treatment plant could be viewed from the cost of the entire plant. Design flow, influent biochemical oxygen demand (BODs) and population equi- valent (PE) which were thought to affect cost were considered. Forty three treatment plants were used in this study, the most important cost determinants were found to be desi&n flow and population equiva- lX.v1-eic.m of l'nvironme'1t-a1 F:rrgirteePi~ An empirical base from which future costs can be estimated was established. It was assumed that past costs could be adjusted for inflation, material and labour cost fluctuations and various other influences to yield an estimate of what similar facilities would cost in the future. This study will provide information, in the form of cost estimation to help the planner in waste treatment facilities planning and management. As more cost history becomes available, it is expected that the present data base will be expanded and updated regularly providing a more complete series of cost estimating relationship.
