A 2 m by Q,5 m trickle type flat plate solar collector was designed, installed and tested to regenerate liquid absorbent solution of calcium chloride. Mass transfer rates of water vapor from the solution to atmospheric air and the regeneration efficiency of the collector were determined. The effect of several parameters such as air flow through the collector, solution flow rates on water desorption rate were observed. The maximum water desorption rate was found to be 0.468 kg/m2 h at an insolation of 938 W/m2 with 46% calcium chloride solution. The collector regeneration efficiency which is the energy utilized for desorption of water vapor divided by the solar energy intercepted by the collector was found to be in the range of 10% to 40%. Mass transfer co-efficient under different conditions were determined and an economic analysis was been made.
