The structure of the electric power system is very large and complex. Nevertheless, its main components can be identified as the generation system, transmission system and distribution system. This study is concerned to the part of EHV transmission line design and electromagnetic transient on the transmission line due to faults. When design of EHV transmission line, the following factors need to be considered and established: conductor type and size, corona and losses, overhead ground wire, earthing system and insulators selection. Mechanical design including sag and stress calculation, conductor spacing. Structural design including: load on the tower calculation, selection type and configuration of tower and foundation. Apart from this, the line should be simulated with faults to see the behavior of fault currents and voltages. Digital simulations using PSCAD/EMTDC program have been carried out with real case 500 kV transmission line data for the different cases. The main factors that were analyses in this study include three models of transmission line available in Tlines in master library, configuration of tower and load. Then simulation results and various factors influence them are particularly important to design protective equipments.
