This study deals with an analytical investigation of the behaviour of ferrocement in tension and flexure based on an equivalent aligned fibre concept. The idealized stress-strain curves of ferrocement in tension and compression have been assumed and the behaviour of the material in pure bending has also been studied. Explicit expressions for determining the modulus of elasticity in tension, crack width, moment-curvature and moment def lection relations have been derived. In deriving the moment-deflection relations, an approximate tri- linear moment curvature curve has been used. The analytical predictions have been found to be in good agreement with experimental results of previous research workers. In the light of the findings of previous research workers, tentative specifications to be followed in the design and construction of ferrocement have been suggested. Procedures to be followed in designing ferrocement structural elements in direct tension and in pure flexure are suggested. Illustrative examples are also incorporated.
