  <abstract>Electric resistivity interpretation in shallow groundwater  surveys relies on an understanding of electrical anomalies caused  by specific earth structures such as gravel lenses, buried  channals etc. The numerical calculation of such anomalies by approximate techniques is especially important because of the limitations of analytic methods and the inconvenience of laboratory  modelling programs. A finite element method computer program  (develop by Rijo 1974-1975) capable of handling dipole-dipole  resistivity modelling of 2D earth structures is used in conjunction with the plotting methods of combined modified pseudo depth  sections to develop and test improved resistivity interpretation  techniques for shallow groundwater investigations.</abstract>
