  <abstract>The vulnerability function or fragility curve expresses the damage probability corresponding to a specific damage state at various level of ground movement. In this study the methodology for constructing the fragility curve was demonstrated and a two story building was selected and used as a case study. The peak ground acceleration was used as an index for describing the severity level of ground motion. The building was represented by two dimensional frame fixed at the based. Only column and beam were associated in the frame model. The overstrength of materials was also considered in the building model. The IDARC2D program was adopted to perform nonlinear dynamic analysis and damage analysis. The records from the 1995 Hyogoken-Nanbu (Kobe) earthquake were chosen as input ground motion. Using the damage indices and ground motion indices, the fragility curve for the building were constructed assuming a lognormal distribution. The variation of structural parameters such as member section and story height was also studied. The fragility curves from this study were also compared with the results studied by Hwang and Huo.</abstract>
