  <abstract>The use of biogas digestion ha s definite advantage on  environment and h ygene of the rural community.  Unfortunately, this cannot be easily quantified. Thus  co nstruction of digesters ha s to be justified economical l y  on the consumption of gas and slurry alone.  In the case of relatively small Thai pig farms, the  energy usage in the farm household and piggery is sufficient  to make small digesters economically viable . However these  are not adequate to treat all the manure of the farm.  Consideration should be given to other agricultural needs  for energy not related to pig rearing and household sector.  The other area that needs to be studied is the application  of the digester slurry as a fertilizer.</abstract>
