  <abstract>A study has been made of the effect of the viscosity and type of  asphalt on the Marshall stability values of a dense graded asphalt concrete measured at the same temperature and constant loading rate. Three grades of asphalt were used to prepare samples using different  temperature to give a range of mixing and compacting viscosities for each grade. It is concluded that the stability of mix is a logarithmic function of both mixing and compacting viscosity and a linear function of the density. The grade of asphalt is the major factor  that affects the stability and density. There is little terminal effect of the viscosity whilst mixing and compacting. Flow value is only affected by asphalt content of mix; when the asphalt content  of mix is kept constant, it is affected by the grade of asphalt. </abstract>
