  <abstract>The problem of lateral stability of a simply supported thin-walled  beam of channel section subjected to biaxial uniform transverse load applied on the middle of top flange, is formulated by variationally method. The solution is obtained by the method of finite differences, in the elastic range. Approximate yield loads are obtained by Von Mises criterion for comparison. Parametric study is carried out and the results are presented to facilitate the design of beams under such conditions.  </abstract>
