  <abstract>This study was performed in order to determine the  electricity conservation potential in the household sector of  Pakistan. Electricity consumed by lighting contributes 50-60% of  total electricity consumption in the household sector. About 83%  of total lighting load in this sector is incandescent. Therefore,  u sin g more efficient lighting technology was considered a major  area where electricity could be saved. Another area given major  consideration was the elimination of electrical losses in  substandard electrical equipment such as fans, cables, ballasts  and to her small accessories made by small manufactures. It was  necessary to consider this equipment because 25-40% of equipment  sold in the market in Pakistan is substandard. The effect of  WAPDA 's current electricity conservation campaign was also  assessed. Cost-benefit analysis was performed using Lotus 123 to  check the cost-effectiveness of lighting technologies both at  consumer and national levels, and payback periods were calculated  for other elements of the study.</abstract>
