  <abstract>The cogeneration system in Khon - kaen sugar mill ltd., located  in Khon - kaen province was studied and the energy and exergy  analysis of the components of the cogeneration system was carried  out . The cogeneration system consists of four boilers each of  80t /hr capacity , three 5Mw turbogenerators and five 1 5 00HP milling  turbines and one 2000HP unigator turbine. The best case  efficiency of the boiler was found to be 62. 74 % and the worst  case efficiency was found to be 60 . 25%. Using the component  analysis the analysis of the cogeneration system as a whole was  carried out. The energy analysis indicate that the maximum first  law efficiency of the cogeneration system recorded was 60. 3 9%  The cogeneration system was modeled base don the experimental  data collected and a computer program was written which takes  into account the capacity limitations of the components of the  system. Based on the first and second law analysis and on the  model developed energy conservation measures were suggested to  improve the efficiency of the cogeneration system. Major energy  conservation measures suggested were, reduction of excess air  supplied to the boilers, installation of bagasse drier (The source  o f drying of bagasse will be the flue gas) and operating the  turbo generators, milling turbines and unigator turbines at their  rated capacity .</abstract>
