Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1984 N2 - The paper calls attention to the role pricing policy plays in influencing patterns of energy demand and supply. The principle of marginal cost pricing, which meets the economic efficiency objective, are introduced. The policy choice of a benchmark for pricing indigenous energy resources is included in this context. The side effects of pricing policies which relate to the social and financial objectives other than efficiency objectives are discussed. Finally, a case study on energy pricing policies and energy use in Taiwan, ROC is presented. The paper concludes that significant opportunities exist for improving resource allocation in the consumption and production of energy through an energy policy that properly considers the allocative effects of pricing policies.
