This study. attempts to determine the economic feasibility of increasing protein production through various fish pond cultures in Thailand. Existing subsistence fishing and fish consumption by region in Thailand are estimated. The environmental factors as well as stocking rate and production for twelve species including fish and crustacean are studied. A benefit-cost ratio is used for economic analysis. A relative comparison of protein production by fish yield and economic attractiveness for different species is developed to rank alternative fish pond culture.
