  <abstract>The engineering properties of the rock salt and claystone of the Maha Sarakam Formation were examined in the laboratory to find out engineering properties which will be important for future underground excavation works. Test results showed that the rock salt and elastic rock were classified as low and very low strength rock, respectively. For the rock salt, uniaxial creep test was carried out under various stress levels at room temperature. The results showed that the empirical power function can be used to describe strain-time relation of the test results. Parameter A of the rock salt is in range of 1.44 to 23.43 (time is in minute). Creep Index (B) obtained from slope of the strain-time plot in log-log scale are 0.006 to 0.195, which indicates low creep response. For the claystone slake durability tests indicated low durability of the rock.</abstract>
