ST-10-18 a A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology aThesis (M.Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 2010 aThis study deals with the earthquake risk assessment in Chiang Mai, through HAZUS-MH loss estimation software. Database of Chiang Mai is improved by, (1) refme Chiang Mai census tracts from 95 to 145 tracts, (2) improve the building matrix from building count type to area base type, (3) separate the essential facilities out of building database and ( 4) collect the missing lifeline and transportation data. The Chiang Mai database is analyzed by HAZUS-MH with four selected earthquakes scenarios. Moreover, strengthening method is selected for improving building capacity by strengthens the most damage suffering structure, which is concrete structure. The result shows that the strengthened concrete structure reduces building damage, casualty and building losses around 20% in severe damage earthquake. Although in slightly damage earthquake, strengthening method reduces just a few building damages and casualty but strengthening method should be provided for prevention of future earthquake. 0aEarthquakesxRisk assessmentzThailandzChiang Mai 0aEarthquake hazard analysiszThailandzChiang Mai0 aPennung Warnitchai,eChairperson1 aSun Sayamipuk, eExamination committee0 aThanakorn Pheeraphan,eExamination Committee1 aPark, Kyung Ho,eExamination Committee2 aAsian Institute of Technology.tThesis ;vno.
