SALT is a package of technology of many components. Farmers are reluctant to adopt all the components of technology. The basic objectives of this study was to find the effects and benefits of the project that have been offered so far to the farmers who had already adopted the SALT technology in their farming system and find the problems in adopting and continuing the use of such technology. It is a case study done in Hapuwala pilot project in the watershed area.Data were collected from the study area including a household survey of two samples, one who adopted SALT and other not adopted SALT. Information collected is processed and were compared with the situation in 1988 when a base line survey was conducted. Socio-economic compatibility, social acceptability and ecologically soundness of the technology in a sustainable environment were considered in analyzing and arriving at conclusions. It can be concluded that SALT system has effectively contributed to meet some essential needs of households farming system with some hopeful results in erosion control.
