Among these processes are series filtration using shredded coconut husk fiber and burnt rice husk as filter media, granular and/or powdered activated carbon adsorptions, and chemical coagulation. Both series filtration and carbon adsorption were found ineffective due to poor color removal efficiency and short operational time. Chemical coagulation using alum as coagulant was found capable of removing 90% of color and 50% of COD at pH of 6.0 and dosage of 200 mg/l for a representative composite sample. 0.4 mg/l of Sanpolymer A510 was used as a coagulation aid to accelerate the settling of the precipitants.
