  <abstract>After devastating floods in Thailand in 2011, flood and erosion protection barriershave become very  important.  There  are  many  types  of these protection barriers  such  as various  designs  dikes and  reinforced  structures.Finiteelement  and  limit  equilibrium methods  were  performed to analyzedfloodand  erosion  protection schemesin  term  of  theirstability and  deformations assuminggroundwater and/or   flooding.  This   study   also   concerned with supporting   and reinforcing  material  such  asgeosynthetics  and  concrete sheet  pile  and  concrete  slab.PLAXIS FEM 2D analysis was utilized topredict the vertical  deformation of flood  protection barriers  in case of additional embankment height. PLAXIS FEM 2D also usedto predict factor of safety for each designschemein case of ground water and flooding with seepage. In each design of flood protection  structure  around  Bangkok  area  useddifference soil  parameter  due  to  differentlocations. The Slide  Softwarewas  utilizedto  predictthe  value offactor of  safety using  Bishop, Janbu  and  Spencer  methods  in  case  of  2  mdepth  groundwater  and  flooding  with  seepage  for each flood and erosion protection structure by using the same soil and support parameters which was  used  in  PLAXISFEM2D Software.  Moreover,  comparing  the  best  design  between  each flood  and  erosion  protection  structures werecarried out.  For  settlementsfor  embankment  with additional  heights, The AIT  design  has  smaller  settlement  than  Hi-Tect  design. The  optimum flood protection barriers design in case of 2 m depth of groundwater simulated by both PLAXIS FEM2D and Slide Softwareswas the design ofNavanakorn-Rojana Industrial Estate. In case of flooding with seepage, Bang Pa-In Industrial Estate designis the optimum design. For optimum simulated design  of riverbank  erosion  protection in  Laos in  both  casesof  low  and  high  water level by both PLAXIS FEM 2D  and  SlideSoftwareswas  found  to  be  located  atKM90+600. Furthermore,comparingthe results from PLAXISFEM 2D and Slide Softwares, the result from PLAXIS 2D seemsto havehigher accuracy</abstract>
