  <abstract>Vertical and horizontal load tests were carried out on both individual piles and on pile groups. The test results showed that the vertical bearing  capacity of the wooden pile group was less than what would be expected from the load test on a single wooden pile, whereas the concrete pile group had a bearing capacity slightly higher than the sum of the individual bearing capacity of the piles in the group. The horizontal load tests showed that the ultimate horizontal load for the pile groups was approximately equal to the sum of the bearing capacity of the individual piles in the groups. </abstract>
