Seventy one percentage of earth surface is covered by the water body and only twenty nine percent left as land cover. Coastal line is defined as the place where the two different types of ecosystems are existing with different properties. India is a subcontinental country with Arabian Sea on the east, Indian Ocean on the south and Bay of Bengal on the east side as a boundaries and having coastal line of length about 5422 km, in this east coast length is about 2313.96 km and 3108.04 km as west coast length respectively. Coastal conditions favors living conditions for humans, so the civilizations that are started near ocean are well developed and playing vital role in development till today. This leads to increase in buildup along the coastal line. Coastal Erosion is the slow effect that destructs the human habitation along the coast, it may periodically slow but it has adverse effects. There are many coasts that are stable coasts and accretion coasts. Remote Sensing and GIS are the modern tools that use for analysis and management of coastal areas. By using them we can visually interpret the ground conditions and we can manage them accordingly. The final output of the this thesis is to compare average erosion length on the east coast and west coast respectively and impact of westward intensification on the east coast of India, Chennai with 3.02 m/year and Kakinada with 2.84 m/yeardegree of erosion are the impact areas of westward intensifications. The shoreline change analysis of the Visakhapatnam city coast using Digital Shoreline Analysis System and mapping of inundation risk zones along the city coast.
