Eng.) - Asian Institute of Technology, 1983 N2 - The study is concerned with the specific substitution effects that arise in the intra-trade of the countries of South Asia and ASEAN. The identification of such substitution effects and the resulting changes in the trade pattern are essential in understanding the prevailing trade behaviour of the member countries. The basic factors which will influence the trade between nations are identified and their short term and long term influence on the general trade pattern is discussed. These factors are dichotomized according to their nature of substitution they allow in the trade. In the long run the level of International Trade is determined by i) Supply Factors (e.g. Domestic Product and Population Size), ii) Demand Factors (such as Income) and iii) The Trade Impediments (natural and artificial). The decomposition of these factors in determining the short term influence on deviating the trade pattern from the general trend is acknowledged in the study UR - http://203.159.5.9/ait-thesis/detail.php?q=B20917 ER -
