An attempt was first made to de termine the structure and growth of the industry from the following aspects: cane production; sugar production; sugar consumption; export performance, power consumption; direct and indirect empl oyment; capi talization; forward and backward linkages. Backward and forward of material flows to and from the sugar industry are identified. The Maeklong River sugar industrial system whose combined capacity accounts for 50 percent of the whole industry is then examined in detail s . Its characteristics are then compared to those of the whole industry. Due to the fact that the sugar industry consumed a significant percentage of national energy consumption, and that Thailand has almost no source of crude, an attempt was then made to investigate the thermal energy utilization of the sugar plants in the Maeklong River System. Data were collected from a selected plant over a period of three months during the 1974-75 production season. It is found that the percentages of heat loss is relatively quite high, and this deserves attention for it could have an impact on the economy UR - http://203.159.5.9/ait-thesis/detail.php?q=B24121 ER -
